From: In silico analyses of maleidride biosynthetic gene clusters

Fig. 7

An unrooted phylogenetic analysis of various citrate synthases, methylcitrate synthases and alkylcitrate synthases (ACSs), including all from known and putative maleidride BGCs. The evolutionary history was inferred by using the Maximum Likelihood method and Le_Gascuel_2008 model [101]. The tree with the highest log likelihood (−17034.49) is shown. The percentage of trees in which the associated taxa clustered together is shown next to the branches. A discrete Gamma distribution was used to model evolutionary rate differences among sites (5 categories (+ G, parameter = 1.8246)). The rate variation model allowed for some sites to be evolutionarily invariable ([+ I], 2.56% sites). The tree is drawn to scale, with branch lengths measured in the number of substitutions per site. This analysis involved 43 amino acid sequences. There were a total of 360 positions in the final dataset. Evolutionary analyses were conducted in MEGA X [99]. *It has been proposed that the ACS from the squalestatin pathway directly accepts the ACP bound acyl chain as a substrate (as shown here) but this has not been conclusively demonstrated [52]
