Semi-quantitative assay of melanin based on spectrophotometry readings at 459 nm on extracted melanin from either isolated conidia or mycelium. Mycelia or isolated conidia from 7-day-old cultures were extracted by an alkali–acid method to obtain melanin. The amount of melanin was extrapolated from the photometry absorbance results at 459 nm, as previously reported by Babitskaia et al. [14] and Alviano et al. [48]. Asterisk indicate a significant difference between the mutant and the parental isolate (Student’s t test, P < 0.01)
